Dear New Student,

Living in a residential community is one of the most heartening and powerful experiences you will have at college. The residence halls are much more than a place to live. The residential program at Mount Holyoke College is structured to enhance academic experience. Our goal is to create meaningful ways of connection and engagement among students, the institution, and the community.

There is a tremendous amount of diversity at Mount Holyoke College. That diversity comes together in the residence halls. Your neighbors will come from different parts of the United States as well as different parts of the world. Our program is designed to create multiple opportunities for you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the wondrous difference around you.

Living in a residential community is not always easy. There can be bumps and bruises when living among various personalities, beliefs, and personal values. Within our program are countless support systems to help you hone your skills of advocacy, negotiation, and compromise. I encourage you to remain open to all the possibilities that living in a residential community will offer.

On behalf of the staff of the Office of Residential Life, I welcome you to Mount Holyoke.

Sincerely,

Rene Davis,
Director of Residential Life
