Life after Mount Holyoke

Each year, more than 500 Mount Holyoke women graduate and start the next phase of their lives. For some this means graduate or professional school, for others a job in a business or nonprofit organization. For all, it involves having a dream and finding a path to reach it.

Wherever they go, our graduates draw upon the critical thinking skills they learned at Mount Holyoke. The strong liberal arts foundation they gain here applies equally well to careers in medicine, business, science, law, the arts, public service, and academia.

Our recent alumnae tell us that the support they received from the Career Development Center (CDC) and the Alumnae Network helped them develop the connections and skills they needed to get started.

Connections
Mount Holyoke’s network of alumnae is one of the institution’s most valued assets. Through an extensive online database, students can seek advice from alumnae in almost any field. More than 20,000 alumnae volunteers make this network a powerful resource for students.

Recruiting and Internships
Mount Holyoke connects with more than 1,000 employers each year through five main recruiting programs: on-campus events, Five College shared schedules, career fairs, the Résumé Referral program, and our database select listings.

Students also connect with employers through summer and January Term internships. Many students do two or three internships; an increasing number of students do even more. 

Graduate and Professional Schools
Each year, 18–25 percent of each class continues on directly into graduate and professional programs, with a similar number doing so within five years. The most popular graduate schools attended by our alumnae in recent years are Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Chicago, and Berkeley. Postgraduate Scholarships and Fellowships
Mount Holyoke women have an enviable record of winning major awards, scholarships, and fellowships. In 2006 and 2007, these awards included the Winston Churchill Foundation Scholarship, three Datatel Scholarships, three National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, four Goldwater Scholarships, and 12 Fulbright Full Grants.
