Basketball Team Earns WBCA National Academic Honors
The Mount Holyoke College basketball team was recently named to the 2007-08 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NCAA Division III. With their team grade point average of 3.383, the Lyons ranked 21st nationally.

Beth Somerset Named Head Indoor Track and Field Coach
The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Beth Somerset as its head indoor track and field coach. Somerset will also serve as an assistant coach for both the cross country and outdoor track and field squads at the College. Her duties will begin in late August.

Didion Earns Rowing All-America Honors
Mount Holyoke College senior Ashley Didion was recently selected to the 2008 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division III Pocock All-America Second Team. She was the fourth Lyon in program history to receive All-America recognition. A total of 18 individuals received the award, which honors the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions.

CRCA Announces 2008 Scholar Athletes
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) recently announced its scholar athletes for the 2008 season. Five members of Mount Holyoke College's crew team were selected as a result of their achievements both in their sport and in the classroom.

Senior Trio Represents Outdoor Track and Field Team at ECAC Championships
A trio of Mount Holyoke College women's outdoor track and field team members competed in the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships over the past two days at Springfield College. All three Lyons qualified for the event by way of their performances in preceding events this spring.

NEWMAC Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Squads
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its 2008 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty-four Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the women's lacrosse, women's outdoor track and field and women's rowing.

NEWMAC Announces Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Awards
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its 2008 women's lacrosse postseason awards. For the second season in a row, Babson College senior Anita Martignetti was named NEWMAC Player of the Year. Teammate Sarah Macary earned NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors, while Vanessa Cox of MIT was selected as the league's Coach of the Year. Mount Holyoke College received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship award.

Mount Holyoke to Donate Docks to Holyoke Rows
When the Friends of Rowing raised $14,000 to purchase a new dock for the MHC crew team, head coach Jeanne Friedman knew precisely what to do with the old one: It will be donated to Holyoke Rows, a nonprofit organization based at the city's Jones Ferry River Access Center.

Mount Holyoke Meets Japan for Soccer Friendly
Mount Holyoke's soccer team faced off against a team of travelling Japanese All-Stars on March 29. The Japanese team is playing a series of exhibition games while on tour in the U.S.

Mount Holyoke Athletics Honors Laurie Priest
The Mount Holyoke College Athletic Department hosted a surprise tribute to Laurie Priest at Thursday's basketball contest versus RPI. A halftime ceremony highlighted the event, which was organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Priest, the Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics at the College since 1989, was recently named one of "The 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America" by the Institute for International Sport.
