Sharon Crow
Professor Emeritus of Physical Education and Athletics
Specialization
Tennis and squash
In 1997, Sharon Crow was recognized for 25 years of service by the athletics department. Crow was the first athletics director in MHC history, overseeing teams while developing a proposal for the first athletics budget. Current athletics director Laurie Priest notes, "In 1973, we started with five varsity sports and approximately 75 student athletes. Today we have 15 varsity sports and more than 325 student athletes. [Crow's] initial work [focused on] providing increased opportunities for women ... and she has been integrally involved ever since in the development of an athletic program striving to achieve excellence."
Crow began her career at Mount Holyoke as the tennis coach. In 1986, she assisted a group of students in creating the Squash Club, which was granted varsity status in 1989. Crow coached squash until she began phased retirement in 2001–2002.
