Associate Dean for Learning Skills
John Body Dr. Body received his bachelors degree, Environmental Resources Management, and his Masters of Business Administration Degree from Penn State University. Working as Director of Residence Life at Curry College south of Boston, he was motivated to study learning disabilities by the PAL Program at that college. He earned his doctorate in Special Education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1993. His work at UMASS focused on learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder in adolescents and adults with particular attention to diagnosis and treatment in the college setting. He has worked at Mount Holyoke College since 1991 and is assisted by Rio his Portuguese water dog.

The Office of Learning Skills works with students who have diagnosed learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. Dr. John Body, Associate Dean, helps students to understand their strengths and challenges in learning and how they relate to college life and academics. Students request academic accommodations under the American with Disabilities Act through this office. Through case management, Dr. Body meets with students individually to work on time management, study skills, support and advocacy with faculty, and other issues relating to the students disability. He also provides assessment to students who believe they have a learning disability or need their testing updated. The assessment has a fee attached to it.
